Our mission is to educate a diverse community of children, nurturing mind, body, and spirit through a Montessori education in the Episcopal tradition.
Thank you for your interest in St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School!
St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School is a special place… It is a place where children feel at home, where they are loved and respected, and where they can grow and flourish in a holistic way. With an Episcopal foundation and through a Montessori approach, we guide children to love and respect the earth and the people around them, and we nurture their innate desire to positively contribute to their community.
I started at St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School in 2018. Before joining the St. Paul’s community, I lived in Austin and worked at both public and private Montessori schools. I have been working in Montessori schools since 2010, and completed my AMI Montessori Elementary certification through Montessori Institute of North Dallas (MINT). I am incredibly passionate about Montessori and the ways in which we can support the child’s development by utilizing the wisdom of this whole-child approach. I am filled with joy as I observe the beautiful Montessori implementation at St. Paul’s, and I thank God every day for the opportunity to serve as Head of School to this nurturing, inclusive, and connected community.
My husband, Alex, and I are also parents at St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School, with one son in elementary and our younger son starting in fall 2024. Additionally, we are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and love attending Sunday services. In our free time, we are passionate about soccer, camping, hiking, connecting with and learning more about Mother Nature, playing or relaxing outside, music, pretty much all sports, and goofing around with each other.
I truly look forward to meeting you and your family!

Our History
St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School was founded in 2005 by Kay Karcher Mijangos, a Montessori guide with 30 years of classroom experience and a dream to bring Montessori to underserved children in San Antonio. As Mijangos set out to make her dream a reality, one very generous family at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church was busy making possible the renovation of the education building that previously had been unoccupied. Thus, St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School (St. Paul’s) was born. In January 2005, St. Paul’s opened its doors with five students and a firm commitment to teach any student who wanted a Montessori education in the Episcopal tradition. Today, St. Paul’s is a beacon in education, attracting more than 75 children ranging in age from 18 months to 12 years from across San Antonio to the historic Government Hill neighborhood.
