Montessori Infants and Toddlers: Maximum Effort
“The child does not follow the law of the least effort, but a law directly contrary. They use an immense amount of energy over an unsubstantial end, and they spend, not only driving energy, but intensive energy in the exact execution of every detail.”
- Maria Montessor, The Secret of Childhood
As adults, we often are trying to find the easiest, simplest, quickest way to accomplish a task and move on to the next item at hand. This approach is lost on Infants and Toddlers, who are wired to do quite the opposite! Though this can be frustrating and challenging, it is an incredibly important part of their development, and it is vital that the adults in their lives build in time for this work to occur. I loved this article from North American Montessori Center about the Montessori Infant and Toddler Maximum Effort. https://montessoritraining.blogspot.com/2021/06/montessori-infants-and-toddlers-maximum.html
