Mindfulness & Gratitude

Greetings from Primary 3!

In Primary Three, we are excited about the enthusiasm our students have shown towards our weekly “mindfulness” practices. Our students have been taught that the word mindfulness means: “Paying full attention to what is happening around you with your whole body, your whole heart, and your whole mind. This is done without criticism or judgment of yourself.”

The students have applied this practice towards weekly challenges, such as: “Leaving No Trace” (which entails leaving a space better than you found it), and “Daily Gratitude” (practicing gratitude by journaling daily). We love the language and actions we are hearing from our students as a result of this practice.

One of the guiding principles of Montessori is that we should, “Help each child become a peaceful individual and peacemaker within the classroom, local, and global communities.” We hope the concept of mindfulness helps the seed of peace grow within their hearts.

Penny: “I love that I can draw pictures in my journal of what I am thankful for.”

Love,
