Our International Day of Peace celebration this year was a beautiful and heartfelt collaboration with songs and readings, culminating in the creation of a beautiful Tree of Peace, built from recycled and donated materials in the style of the Mexican Olive Tree.
The Upper Elementary class was inspired by the component parts of the tree creating a collective whole. Students from the class read a brief explanation of how each part of the tree relates to an aspect of peace:
Roots – God and his love
Trunk – Trust
Branches – Strength and uplifting the community
Leaves – Community
Blossoms – Love
Fruit – Harmony
Every student added a leaf to the tree that was decorated with a picture or message representing peace and love, papering the bare branches with joy and creating a community bond.
Students also sang “Light a Candle for Peace” in conjunction with Sing Peace Around the World, helping to spread a message of peace around the globe!
The day was a huge success thanks to the many parents, friends of the school, staff, and students who worked together to bring a beautiful message to life! We encourage everyone to take a few minutes today to find a way to spread your own message of peace to those you encounter.
